Homeopathy in cancer care

Homeopathy is one of the most widely used forms of medicine in the world today. It was discovered over 200 years ago by a German doctor and chemist called Samuel Hahnemann.

Homeopathy seeks to treat the cause of illness, by strengthening each individual (physically, mentally and emotionally) and stimulating the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

It is a complete system of medicine that treats you as an individual, recognising that your physical symptoms are a part of a bigger picture. There are no risks of toxic side effects or addiction therefore it is safe for everyone including babies, children, during pregnancy/breast feeding and in the elderly.

One of the main principles is known as ‘the law of similars’ or ‘like cures like’. This law states that a substance that can cause a disease can also relieve it. For example, coffee — or Coffea as it is known in latin—is a stimulant that can cause temporary insomnia. Where the symptoms match, Coffea may be used in minute potentised (ie. Homeopathic) doses to relieve insomnia.

Another example is that chopping onions can cause your nose and eyes to run. The onion — Allium cepa—can be used homeopathically to treat colds and hayfever where the main symptoms include runny eyes and nose.

There are literally thousands of homeopathic medicines and it is my job to find the right one/s for you based on your individual symptoms. If you’d like to see the homeopathy science, the Homeopathy Research Institute supports high quality research and provides current information. www.homeoinst.org

Anyone can consult a homeopath for treatment with a particular condition in mind or to boost their immunity and improve overall well being. Homeopathy has much to offer when you have a diagnosis of cancer, from supporting you emotionally to helping to reduce the side effects of conventional treatment.

What is a consultation like?

A homeopathy consultation gives you the opportunity to talk about your symptoms and how they affect you in as much detail as you wish. You can choose to focus on any aspect of your health and well-being. It is helpful for me to know when symptoms started and anything that makes things better or worse for you. I will also ask you about your health history and your family medical history.

Information about your lifestyle and aspirations, your sleep patterns, food likes and dislikes will all help me to build up my overview of you as a whole person. The first consultation usually lasts 60 – 90 minutes, enabling me to understand your individual needs and prescribe the best medicine for you. Follow up appointments last 30 – 45 mins. Prescriptions for acute illnesses such as shock, injury, fever, vomiting or flu are assessed much more quickly.

Homeopathic treatment is a process and you can be as involved in that process as you wish to be. Together we will try to find the underlying cause of your symptoms which may be one of many things and could include events such as an illness, a physical trauma such as an accident, or an emotional trauma such as bereavement or divorce.

What can you expect from treatment?

Homeopathy promotes health in its fullest sense. People who have had homeopathic treatment often report that they are generally better able to resist infection, have a greater sense of well-being and vitality as well as a more positive outlook on life.

The pace with which you will feel relief will depend on the condition treated. In acute ailments, results can be very quick. In more chronic conditions, your recovery rate can be influenced by many factors such as the nature of the illness and your individual vitality.

The medicines

I will supply your homeopathic medicines in tablet or liquid form according to your needs. I may give you your medicines at the end of the consultation or post them to you once I have taken some time to study your case.

Homeopathic medicines are safe to use alongside conventional medicine and indeed, can reduce unwanted side effects.

I may offer you lifestyle advice and other suggestions where appropriate and if I think it would be helpful, refer you to other practitioners.
